Named after the chief of the local Indian Tribe who lived in this region before the Spaniards arrived, the Hotel Moctezuma is situated on the beachfront in the beautiful fishing village of Montezuma. With views across the Pacific Ocean and the interior jungle, what better place could you choose for your Costa Rican vacation adventure?
With rates as low as $15 per night on some rooms, and all rooms having private bathrooms and WiFi, Hotel Moctezuma is a very affordable place to stay when you are visiting the Nicoya Peninsula, ideally located as well to take advantage of all the local attractions and activities.
Montezuma nestles between the cliffs and the ocean, and it is wrapped in the arms of a vibrant and verdant jungle. Here you can explore waterfalls and swim in rock pools, catch a zip line through the canopy and come face-to-face with local wildlife, including howler monkeys, parrots and agoutis. Why not go on a horse trek? What better way to explore the jungle, and you even get to run through the surf on the beach at the end of the trek.
Montezuma itself is a cosmopolitan village. A little Caribbean, a little hippy, a little avant garde, and very secluded… with restaurants, shops, bars and a weekly organic/artisan market, this charming village is perfect for those that want to relax and not have to go too far for their adventure.
If you want adventure though, Montezuma is the perfect place for you. Snorkeling, scuba diving, sea fishing, all can be booked in the village. Just 9km south is the impressive national park of Cabo Blanco, and if you like nature, this is the place to explore it. Surfers can take a trip further along the coast to the famous beaches of Mal Pais and Santa Teresa, some of the best surfing in Costa Rica is to be found here.
The beaches are breathtaking, refreshing and also the perfect place to view wildlife like crabs and turtles in their native environments. Playa Grande, the largest of the Montezuma beaches is where turtles come back every year to lay their eggs. This event, and the hatching of the eggs is something you would not want to miss.
In all, the Hotel Moctezuma is ideally located for budget travelers who want to be right in the middle of it all… relaxing, adventurous, exciting and pleasurable.
Pura Vida!

My new favorite restaurant, Clandestina is not to be missed by food lovers staying anywhere near to Montezuma. Established in March 2015, Clandestina is the new kid on the block. The Oregon/Tico collaboration is a winner among locals and travelers alike, with artisan craft beers, made onsite by Butterfly Brewing Co. and delicious, exciting […]
