The friendly Canadian owner is not the only reason people flock to one of Montezuma’s most popular dining venues. The eclectic menu offers hungry travelers and locals several dining choices. Everything from the chipotle aioli to the basil mayo dip to the scrumptious roasted vegetable sandwich is home cooked. If you’re a sea food aficionado, their fish tacos are not to be missed.
The shrimp tacos topped with a cabbage slaw are a good option of you want something that looks slightly healthier. Vaca Loca’s chicken or fish casado are equally good. The place can get extremely busy especially during weekends and peak tourist seasons and hence is not advisable if travelers are looking for a quick meal on a busy day. Complement your meal with fresh fruit juices and there’s little that can wrong here.
Voca Loca may seem a tad pricier than its counterparts but the delectable and inspiring menu makes up for that. Other than their mind-blowing signature sauces, the eatery is known for its friendly service and vibrant artwork. The best part about eating here is that all the dishes are freshly prepared right in front of your eyes (it features an open kitchen) and according to the patron’s preferences. The eatery is accommodating in customizing a dish to the customer liking. If you’re on a light meal spree, order a sandwich, their delicious homemade chips a glass of refreshing homemade lemonade and you are sorted.
Breakfast bliss here can come in the form a fresh Italian bread sandwich complete with handpicked locals produce such as tomato, avocados and cheese. Add the choicest of homemade dressings there and you’re in breakfast heaven. Don’t forget to finish your meal with a watermelon flavored iced tea. The smoothies, especially the banana passion fruit one, is also great. Vaca Loca also sells some showpieces and souvenirs, the proceeds of which are diverted towards supporting children locally. If a delicious gourmet meal with organic ingredients is on your mind, by all means Voca Loca may be one of your best options.
The atmosphere is nice, laidback and relaxed during the non-rush hours and non busy days. You can spend hours gorging their fresh veggies and lip-smacking dips. Though it will be a challenge to know when to stop given the scrumptious variety of food found here, do save some place for the equally fine tasting homemade desserts. Another fascinating aspect of eating here is no two days of eating after a considerable gap will feel the same because they are constantly innovating, using new ingredients, changing recipes, introducing new dishes and revamping the menu. And yes, if you ever want to catch all the live Montezuma street action and enjoy people watching as you sink your teeth into a hearty sandwich, this may be a good dining option. For some quaint, relaxed and heartily old styled dining, Vaca Loca has little competition.

My new favorite restaurant, Clandestina is not to be missed by food lovers staying anywhere near to Montezuma. Established in March 2015, Clandestina is the new kid on the block. The Oregon/Tico collaboration is a winner among locals and travelers alike, with artisan craft beers, made onsite by Butterfly Brewing Co. and delicious, exciting […]
