Zumatours, during the many years that they’ve been in business in Montezuma, has achieved the position as the “high end” of the tour agencies in town. The owner, Italian native Ivan, strives to give the best quality service and has the highest standards for his boats and equipment, and Zumatours works with many of the high-end hotels in the area.
Note: there has been some confusion in the past couple of years as another company has imitated the Zumatours brand, creating some confusion in the market and some un-deserved bad reviews for Zumatours. So if you’re trying to book through Zumatours, make sure it’s through their website (zumatours.net), or through their office. Another website, www.zumatoursgroup.com, is owned by another company and is creating the confusion.
Zumatours offers the most popular tours and adventure options in the Montezuma area, such as:
Canopy Tour – Zip line, including a visit to Montezuma Falls
Horseback Riding – Horse tour to El Chorro waterfall
Scuba Diving – Work with the Curu dive team
Scuba Certification Program – CMAS/PADI scuba certification program
Sportfishing – Deep sea fishing in the ocean in front of Montezuma
Tortuga Island – Using its own boats
Ground Transport: Shuttle to San Jose, Liberia, or other towns in Costa Rica
Taxi Boat: Daily service to Jaco in one hour by speedboat
I recently had the privilege of experiencing Zumatours’ new catamaran. It’s an amazing boat… lots of space and the ride is much smoother than other boats. Its flatter profile makes it rock a lot less. We explored many of the area’s remote beaches, islands, etc. We even bought and ate raw oysters from a fisherman who was floating in a small boat. Incredible experience that I highly recommend. This catamaran is also great for exploring the area’s mangrove swamp, such as the one near Pochote in the Tambor bay (Bahia Ballena).

My new favorite restaurant, Clandestina is not to be missed by food lovers staying anywhere near to Montezuma. Established in March 2015, Clandestina is the new kid on the block. The Oregon/Tico collaboration is a winner among locals and travelers alike, with artisan craft beers, made onsite by Butterfly Brewing Co. and delicious, exciting […]
